It's not just what we know... it's how much we care!

Staff Continuing Education

Our clinic places a strong emphasis on continuing education, as we want to provide our patients with up-to-date modern medicine and surgery of the highest standard. Veterinary Science is constantly evolving and improving, with new procedures and treatments available all the time. Our vets regularly attend workshops, seminars and conferences so that they can continually update and improve their knowledge and skills in order to achieve the best possible outcome for your pet.

Several of our staff members are currently undertaking further study:

For much of 2017 Pete will be embarking on a 10 month advanced course in cardiorespiratory medicine through the University of Sydney. The course is designed to improve vets’ diagnostic and clinical skills for conditions from nasal disease to lung and heart disease. We see a lot of older animals with complicated chest pathology and we are so grateful to Pete for taking on this extra study to deliver the best outcomes for our clients and patients. This extra knowledge is the perfect accompaniment to Pete’s special interest in echocardiology (heart ultrasound). Pete will be hard at work this year, with several weekend workshops and regular assignments – all part of Wingham and Valley Vets’ commitment to providing outstanding quality care for our patients!!

This was a year-long course in mastitis management and prevention, so the participants are well-equipped to give expert advice to farmers and assist in both prevention and containment of mastitis outbreaks. The course has already been extremely valuable, with Mick assisting some local Dairy farmers recently in the treatment of a large mastitis outbreak. Mick can provide advice on preventing future outbreaks, reducing cell counts and addressing issues with BactoScans.

  • Donna Buoro – Fear Free Training. This year Donna completed the ‘fear free’ accreditation course. The program is aimed at providing veterinarians and nurses with the knowledge and tools to not only look after a pet’s physical wellbeing, but their emotional wellbeing as well. ‘Fear free’ accreditation has the following benefits:
    • Reduces or removes anxiety triggers that can cause pets to become fearful at home, in transport and in the veterinary hospital
    • Helps owners to deliver calm pets to our veterinary hospital
    • Enhances the quality of medicine and patient care in the practice
    • Increased patient and owner compliance with treatments and medication administration
    • Improves safety for everyone

Many of our most loyal clients travel a long way with their pets to our hospital, because of our strong emphasis on behavior and managing anxiety. We firmly believe that making your pets’ visits to our hospital as comfortable and stress free as possible is truly in their best interests and we are looking forward to implementing all the strategies our staff have learned through this excellent course.
